The financial market Vs. the art market, by Artfinding

The At first sight, the financial and the art markets don't seem to have much in common. The first is a very pragmatic and down-to-earth field animated by mathematical models and short term speculation, whereas the second relies on passion or feelings animated by art lovers who more often follow their gut rather than decide by empirical evidence. Bernard de Grunne expert in tribal arts: African Oceanic and Indonesian in Belgium

Read more here: http://www.artfinding.com/News/Bernard-de-Grunne-expert-in-tribal-arts:-African-Oceanic-and-Indonesian-in-Belgium/2042.html

My name is Bernard de Grunne, I am a specialist in Tribal Art: African, Oceanic and Indonesian Tribal art. There are few leading cultures on the market: what is considered as "classic" is what is mostly searched for by collectors, such as the Kongo, the Luba, or the Dogon. But more and more clients are coming from the contemporary art market and are more into tribes that have forms related to what the European Artists got inspired from. Supply issues are common to the general art market. To avoid it, man needs to have a lot of imagination and perseveration such as finding unique groups of objects. In terms of provenances of my clients in a close future, the good old Paris-London-Brussels New York-Los Angeles won't disappear. I see a slight movement towards South America with Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil, but I don't see any access in Asia, neither in Africa. Compared to other fields (Chinese arts, contemporary and modern arts), Tribal Arts are really undervalued. But the African art market hasn't ever been an "investors art market"; my clients envoy buying pieces and keep them for a long time.

Nichiolas Kilner - the gallery's manager - deals with Post-War French, Italian American and Mexican design. "What I like so much about my specialty, is that the market for 20th century design is still very young, there’s still much to be learned about this section which might be a very  interesting aspect to be dealing in. The design section is very young here at TEFAF". TEFAF has been running now for twenty four years, but it’s been focusing on the design section only for the last three years and it’s exciting to be involved in it.
